Ottawa’s downtown has been hit hard by the recent tropical storm.

The city is preparing to welcome an extra 2.8 inches of rain this week as the region braces for the expected heavy rain, flooding and wind gusts.

But it will also see a significant increase in wind gust and storm surge in some areas, especially in the east and south, which are prone to flooding.

“This is where you are seeing the greatest risk of flood and storm surges,” said Mike Ouellette, director of the National Capital Region Flood Control Centre.

Ouellet said there’s a good chance Ottawa could see up to six inches of water in some parts of the city.

We’re seeing very heavy rains in the areas along Rideau and the Rideaux Canal and those are the areas where we’ve had significant flooding.”
